BERNARD BLOCK is a mixed-use project, featuring our BERTRAM TOWER, a 34 level residential condo tower sharing a 5 level podium with THE BLOCK, a 17-storey angular office tower. This project has over 257 units and 460 parking stalls in downtown Kelowna BC. This project was designed in collaboration with RICHARD HENRY ARCHITECT, and the nature of this region has played an important role in the concept of this project design. Water, native grasses and the expression of the sedimentary layering of the earth from glacial deposits, and a little bird’s nest of grass stalks and blades of grass epitomizes the ideal home made from indigenous materials are architecturally reflected in the basket weave nest-like facade, the rammed earth walls and the various water features of the project. Indigenous cultures used the land and the materials found in this area to survive and thrive, and the design and architecture of this project is a nod to that concept and history.
